How Europe Underdeveloped Africa by Walter Rodney
Reading Group / ZoomInstructor: Hannah Black
Start date: May 17th / 4PM EST
This course will take the form of a reading group in which students will be guided through a selection of readings curated by artist Hannah Black. In each session students will read chapters from Walter Rodney’s How Europe Underdeveloped Africa (1972) out loud together (no reading homework!). The class will additionally participate in an open discussion in which they will be asked to share their thoughts and unpack the assigned reading. The course will offer screenings of African films including Mandabi (1968) and Hyenas (1992) to guide students through a discussion of interconnected fates of the world and economic forms of anti-blackness.
